ABOUT THE ARTIST….
Kaitlin Lewis is a St. Louis based illustrator pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Illustration at Webster University. Her work explores the intersection of nostalgia, pop culture, and the darker aspects of human nature. Drawing inspiration from the Y2K era and historical imagery, folklore, vintage advertising, and contemporary media, she embraces contrasting aesthetics, ranging from sacred gothic and macabre to playful pop culture and vividly saturated compositions. Working across traditional and digital media, she incorporates expressive brushwork, collage, and unconventional color palettes to explore themes of morality, consumerism, humor, and cultural identity. Both dark in subject matter and vividly playful, her work is a celebration of our contradictory nature. Her work acknowledges the juxtaposition of beauty, discomfort, and the humor of it all. Throughout these contrasting themes and images, she creates visually engaging narratives that encourage curiosity with visual contradictions.
